Professional Biography

A shareholder with the Firm, Mr. Bearer was admitted to the practice of law in the State of Oklahoma in October 1982 after graduation from the University of Tulsa College of Law.  He began his practice in banking law and secured transactions.  His principal areas of practice today include business organizations (profit and non-profit), business acquisitions and ownership transition planning, commercial law, contracts, employment and non-compete agreements, licensing, franchising, leases and real estate transactions.  He has assisted in the sale and acquisition of closely held businesses, including the purchase of a number of going concerns by a NASDAQ-listed client and that client’s recent agreement to merge with another corporation.

Mr. Bearer holds the B.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma (1973) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh (1978).  He has also studied abroad at the Université de Grenoble (1968) and the Université de Rouen (1973-76).  During his three years in Normandy, France, he taught English as a second language as a full-time, resident faculty member of a private residential prep school and as an adjunct professor at an urban technical institute.  He is a member of the Tulsa County and Oklahoma Bar Associations.  His languages include French, Hebrew, Latin and Greek.

Prior to entering the practice of law, he served as Manager of Loan Review with the First National Bank & Trust Company of Tulsa (now Morgan Chase) (1978-82) and as a translator, interpreter and foreign correspondent with the Osborn Foundation, an overseas evangelistic association headquartered in Tulsa.

Mr. Bearer has a long record of teaching at various levels, including Latin 1 & 2 and Beginning Biblical and Modern Hebrew (Augustine Christian Academy); Business Policy & Strategy, Business Law, Money & Banking, and Corporate Finance (University Center at Tulsa); French for Business and Intermediate Conversation (Oral Roberts University); Beginning French (Monte Cassino Prep School, Tulsa); and ESL (École de Radio-électricité et d’électronique, and Le Collège de l’Andelle, both in Normandy, France).

Personal Biography

I was born and reared in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. My father is from Pittsburgh, PA, and my mother from Ft. Worth, TX. After earning the rank of Eagle Scout, Brotherhood membership in the Order of the Arrow, and “Best Actor” for performances in Charley’s Aunt and Twelfth Night, I was graduated from College High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 12th in a class of 582.  Thereafter, I attended the University of Oklahoma as a Glenn Couch Scholar (National Merit) and received a B.A. degree in May 1973, with emphases in English and French literature, European history and the history of science.

My wife Lovie (formerly Lenora Lawson Marsh) and I have four adult children and three sons-and daughters-in-law (John & Amy Bearer of Commerce, TX; Elizabeth & Benjamin Blick of Clarendon, PA; Priscilla Rachel Bearer of Los Angeles, CA; and Samuel & Sarah Bearer of Norman, OK), and five grand-children: Ariel and Michaela (aged 6), one-year-old Naomi, David(6 months), and one yet-to-be-named, who is working on being born.
