Personal Biography

I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. I played football in high school and, although receiving a number of scholarship offers from Big Ten universities, I chose the University of Tulsa. I played linebacker at the University of Tulsa from 1973 to 1976 and had the privilege of playing with tremendous young men, many of whom are still solid friends to this day. We had excellent teams during those years and a number of exceptional teammates that went on to make a substantial impact in professional football and college coaching: Pro Football Hall of Fame member Steve Largent; Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach (former Head Coach for the Chicago Bears) Lovie Smith; Former University of Tulsa Football Coach David Rader; and current University of Tulsa Football Coach Bill Blankenship…just to name a few. In 1976, our team was nationally ranked and played in the Independence Bowl. I was awarded the University of Tulsa President’s Award for leadership on the field.

After graduation, I married my wife, Cindy, who received a degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University. Cindy and I have two daughters. Bridgette Edwards lives in San Antonio, Texas with her husband, Ben David Edwards, an executive with Kinetic Concepts, Inc. They have two children, Brayden and Brooklyn. Thank goodness for Southwest Airlines, so we can spend quality time with the grandbabies! My other daughter, Brittany Dancer, lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband, David, who is in the commercial real estate department of Bank of the Ozarks. Brittany spent several years as a sales representative in the fashion industry before moving to the pharmaceutical industry.

Because of my faith in Jesus Christ, the main focus of activities outside of the practice of law has been devoted to church and ministry activities. Over the years, I have devoted a substantial amount of time serving on the Board of Directors of a number of ministries. It has also been a joy and privilege to teach at churches, conferences, and seminars across the country.
