I grew up in Poteau, a small town in southeastern Oklahoma. After attending the University of Arkansas on a football scholarship, I received the degree of Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a major in Accounting, and entered the University of Tulsa School of Law, from which I received the degree of Juris Doctor in May 1980. While still in law school, I sat for and passed the CPA exam and, upon graduation, began my professional career with an established Tulsa law firm, concentrating in tax and estate planning, and business and real estate transactions. In February 1982, I formed by own firm, which became Barber & Bartz in 1988.
I oversee the Firm’s business division, which includes the areas of corporate, real estate, tax and estate planning law, and I serve as the Firm’s managing shareholder. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to represent a wide variety of business organizations, such as manufacturing, telecommunications and computer companies, private foundations, developers, professional service groups and venture capital organizations.
My wife Debbie and I have one son, Ben, and one daughter, Maggie. We also have a wonderful daughter-in-law, Brady, and three beautiful grandchildren. I have enjoyed coaching youth baseball, football and basketball, and serve on the Board of Directors of a variety of business and nonprofit organizations. My hobbies include music and sporting activities.
